Why we build this
Visitors to Korea who can't read Korean often get stuck on small things: topping up a T-money card, changing subway lines, paying at a kiosk, finding a pharmacy at night, or knowing whom to call in an emergency. K-GodGom puts practical, source-checked answers in plain English (and a few other languages) in one place, with a bear mascot, GodGom (갓곰), to keep it friendly.
What we have built
- Ask GodGom, live at kgodgom.com/app. A no-sign-up chatbot that answers Korea travel questions in the language you write in. Suggested questions are provided in English, Spanish, Indonesian, Thai and Japanese. It runs on the Claude API. See how it uses Claude.
- AI tools in the app: a menu and sign photo translator, a medicine label reader (translation only, not medical advice) and a pocket phrase card maker, all calling Claude. Details on How we use Claude.
- Survival cards: 12 short step-by-step cards (arrival day, T-money, subway transfers, taxis, convenience stores, kiosk ordering, ATMs and cash, Wi-Fi and SIM, pharmacy, help and emergencies, jjimjilbang, and everyday Korean phrases), each with a Korean phrase you can play aloud. They also work offline once the app has loaded.
- Place stories: 5 short stories with a local tip (a palace day, a Han River picnic, Seoul after dark, cherry blossom season, market snacks).
- YouTube Shorts on @kgodgom: short videos about everyday life and travel in Korea. The channel has 30+ public videos as of 2026-10-11.
- Emergency numbers are always visible in the app: 112 (police), 119 (fire and ambulance), 1330 (Korea Travel Hotline, interpretation).
What is not there yet: accounts, payments, bookings, live information (timetables, prices in real time) and a native mobile app. We have no revenue and no usage figures to report.
How we use Claude
- In the product. Ask GodGom sends your question to Claude (Anthropic) through the Claude API, via a small server (a Cloudflare Worker) on kgodgom.com. Answers stream back as they are written. Claude is the only large language model in the product.
- To build it. The website, the app and the Worker were built by the founder together with Claude Code.
- To plan content. We use Claude to plan the YouTube videos. The facts in the cards and in the chatbot's knowledge pack are drawn from official Korean sources and carry an "as of" date.
Details are in How Ask GodGom uses Claude and the Privacy page.
